This incredible organization based in Parramos (just outside of Antigua), provides university scholarships for impoverished Maya youth, especially from rural areas. Very few of these students are able to obtain a higher education in their communities. Scholarships pay for tuition, room and board. Access to higher education brings choice into the lives of young women and the opportunity to be social change agents in their country’s growth and economic development. In 2020, PROGRESA provided scholarships to 87 Guatemalan youth who, as a condition of their funding, perform community service in their villages each year. Miguel Costop, Executive Director, is a former recipient of a PROGRESA university scholarship.
